Honest project management software comparisons and reviews

Updated August 2026 · 13 tools reviewed · 40+ comparisons

Choosing project management software is hard. Every tool claims to be the best, every comparison site has an affiliate agenda, and most of the "top 10" lists are just ranked by whoever pays the highest commission.

We do things differently. Every comparison on PMCompared is based on actual usage, verified pricing, independent lab data (where available), and G2/Capterra user reviews — not affiliate payouts. If a tool has a weakness, we say so. If a cheaper tool does the job better, we tell you that too.

How We Rate Tools

We score each tool on five dimensions, weighted by what matters most for teams:

DimensionWeightWhat We Look At
Features30%Gantt, Kanban, automations, views, integrations, API
Ease of Use25%Onboarding time, UI clarity, learning curve, mobile experience
Pricing20%Value per dollar, free tier quality, pricing transparency
Scalability15%Performance with large teams, permission depth, SSO/SAML
Customer Reviews10%G2, Capterra, TrustRadius aggregate scores and sentiment

No tool gets a perfect score. The "best" tool is the one that fits your team's size, budget, and workflow — not the one with the most features.
